Same Day Crowns & CEREC
We understand how busy you are. That’s why we use technology that allows you to get restorative dental treatment within one visit.
Ceramic Reconstruction is a highly sophisticated system of creating high-quality, metal-free dental restorations in a single visit. CEREC uses 3D photography and CAD/CAM technology that allows us to create virtual restorations without taking impressions. From there, we’re able to build the physical restoration while you’re right here in the office.
How CEREC Technology Works
When a tooth has been structurally damaged, sometimes it needs to be fitted with a crown so that it can function right and look like a normal tooth again. A “crown” is simply a sturdy covering that we custom-create to fit over your tooth, starting at the gum. Historically, crowns had to be created in a dental laboratory, which could mean waiting days or weeks between the impressions and the actual placing of the crown. With CEREC technology, this is no longer the case.
CAD/CAM stands for Computer-Aided Design/Computer-Aided Manufacturing, and technology like this makes it possible to design and create crowns and additional dental restorations in minutes, all at the same quality and success that a lab would produce.
To crown a tooth, we first start with preparation. We’ll remove any decay on the tooth, then shape it so it fits easily inside the crown. Unlike the process of creating a traditional crown, we don’t have to take a mold of your teeth. Instead, we’ll use a scanning wand to take a digital picture of your mouth. The software will then render a highly accurate 3D model of your teeth.
Next, your crown will be designed while you wait right in the office. We’ll select a piece of dental ceramic material in the shade that most closely matches your teeth, and we’ll use a milling machine that carves your custom crown from the ceramic block. This process takes about 30-60 minutes.
We’ll check to make sure the crown fits you perfectly and make any needed enhancements like staining and glazing, then we’ll expertly bond the crown to your tooth and that’s it! There’s no need to wait weeks with a temporary crown while your permanent one is being fabricated at a lab, like in the old days. Thanks to our technology, you’ll walk out the same day with your actual crown. It’s that easy!
